Jorrit Tornquist was born in Graz, Austria, in 1938. In his city he completed his studies in biology and architecture and took his first steps in the artistic world. Since 1964 he has lived in Italy.
His research since 1959, has been a passionate study of color, both in its relationship with light and the surface of the painting and in its potential for action on the environment, including in architecture.
His approach to painting is always scientific: a research that tends, especially in his latest works, to the materialization of the object through light and that addresses not only the perception of color and its relationship to light, but also its functions in nature and its psychological effects on man.
Since 1965, he has exhibited his work in major galleries and public spaces in Europe, the United States, and Japan; winning numerous awards and prizes. His works can be found in museums in Europe, Israel, South and North America.
The resulting research work on the perception and use of color has led Jorrit Tornquist to significant applications in both architecture and design.
His numerous publications explore his approach to color from theoretical and technical-applicative perspectives.
