ABC-ARTE is pleased to announce a new exhibition dedicated to the work of the great artist from Pesaro Nanni Valentini, under the title Different transparencies, different clays.
The exhibition institutes a critical dialogue between two fundamental aspects of that work and their profound connections. On the one hand there are the Transparencies, in which around the mid-1970s he pried open the contiguity between the imaginary of the painterly “representation” – and more generally the horizon of the visible – and on the other hand the full earthiness of the clay, which he explored in more and more depth.
The new exhibition in the ABC-ARTE gallery in Genoa sets out to accompany the viewer on a critical journey between the Transparencies of the 1970s and the subsequent developments of his tactile explorations.
The opening in Genoa will be held at 6:30 pm on 19 September, in Via XX Settembre 11 A.
‘’I like to manipulate the clay, to see through a canvas, to bathe things in colour. I try to grasp what lies in the space between the visible and the tactile”, Valentini wrote in 1975 during the Transparencies period.
The dialogue between a selected series of Transparencies and some topical moments of the subsequent tactile research – including the Shield from The vase and the octopus, 1978-1982, The mirror of Narcissus from The clays of Bachelard, 1983, and the Focolare di Hestia, 1985 manifests the profoundly unitary nature of Valentini’s creativity, the acute penetration that it nevertheless embodies, irrespective of the technical and operational variations, that make him the author of necessary images with a high poetic level.
A bilingual English-Italian publication by ABC-ARTE edizioni with original essays and a rich documentary apparatus will accompany the exhibition.
